Calling all Volunteers
Are you looking for a way to make a difference for animals? We care for between 300 and 400 cats and dogs per year and we couldn’t do it without our compassionate and dedicated volunteers.
It is impossible to help every stray, but every effort we make to help homeless animals counts. Our animal friends can’t help themselves, so we need to step in.
It isn’t just about animals - it’s about people helping animals.
Volunteer Orientation
The Bulverde Area Humane Society is looking for a number of adults or students to help out at the shelter. If you would like to walk and socialize dogs, work with cats or help with adoption events, consider being a volunteer. Volunteers provide care for our animals as well as advocating for animals in our community, and educating others about important animal issues
We provide the training so no prior experience is required. Training is offered on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 9:30AM-11:00AM. Please arrive a few minutes early. Please bring your volunteer form (found below) and cash or check for the $20.00 registration fee.
Email us at: Volunteer@BulverdeShelter.com with the following information: 1) Date requested, 2) Name of each participant, 3)Each participant's status as an Adult Volunteer or Junior Volunteer (Ages 12-15). If a Junior Volunteer, tell us your age. 4) Your contact phone number in case of last-minute weather reschedule.
Please download and review the Orientation Packet information and bring the completed Adult and Junior Applications with you to your confirmed New Volunteer Orientation. Parents/Guardians of Junior Volunteers must complete the Adult and the Junior Volunteer Form. Minimum age to volunteer at BAHS is 12. A Junior Volunteer is classified between the ages of 12-15 and all JV's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian AT ALL TIMES while the minor is participating in BAHS programs and activities.
Volunteer Orientation Notice
There
is a nonrefundable registration fee of $20.00 which will guarantee
you a spot at volunteer orientation and includes a Bulverde Area
Humane Society volunteer t-shirt. All attendees must have a spot
regardless of whether they are volunteering or accompanying a minor.
Orientation class closes when class reaches 30.

A reservation is required to attend volunteer orientation. No spots will be available for walk-in attendees. Parking is limited and registrants need to be checked in by the time orientation begins, so we strongly recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes early.

Our organization would like to ensure that all people with disabilities are in a safe environment, but due to our geographical location, many people with certain disabilities have a difficult time navigating our physical property.
We look forward to have anyone able to independently or along with a qualified family member, friend or assistant come to visit our shelter as a volunteer. Our shelter does not have paid individuals on the premises who are trained or able to provide individual or specialized care for those who cannot navigate our property on their own. If you are disabled and need asssistance moving from one area to another, please bring along a qualified support person to ensure that your visit is a safe and positive one.
We may request that you sign a waiver releasing our shelter from any responsibility due to injuries that can occur on property during your visit.

The Bulverde Area Humane Society is a non-profit organization. Although fundraisers help a lot, we are almost always in need of food, time, money, or other contributions. We are also more than happy to discuss and be part of any fundraisers or receivers for charity events. Below are areas in which individuals or organizations can be of help.
Food Contributions
Here at the shelter we are very fortunate that HEB Grocery Store is one of our Corporate Supporters. They support us by donating the majority of the food that our animals need. We do need food donations from the Community also. Whether you would like to do weekly/monthly donations or a one-time donation.. any contributions are greatly appreciated.
Time Contributions
There are a wide variety of things that can be done to improve the shelter or the healthcare of the animals. Whether you are a veterinarian willing to donate vaccines, or a gravel company willing to improve our main road which has practically washed away. Any donation of this kind would be greatly appreciated.
FOSTER "PARENTS" in the Bulverde Area
Please contact us if you would be interested in becoming a FOSTER MOM OR DAD to a very small little pet. To volunteer to FOSTER baby animals you must be able to bottle feed them every 2 to 3 hours day and night. This is critical for the first two weeks. Normally by the time the animal is 3 weeks old, feeding times can be eliminated during the night. Arrangements can be made to share times with the foster families in order to give everyone a little break.
